In the United States, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for all ages and the 2nd leading cause of death for youth and young adults between 10-34 (CDC 2021).  According to the CDC, a person dies of suicide every 11 minutes in the United States; yet suicide prevention receives very little funding.

The mission of the SAM Foundation is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education by equipping our communities with the skills to intervene in a suicidal crisis. Our hope is to change the way our communities view mental health and serve as a resource to those who have been affected by suicide, therefore making our communities more suicide safe.

The SAM Foundation believes all members of communities play a vital role in suicide prevention. Through our evidence-based trainings, provided at no cost, the SAM Foundation reaches a variety of community members, corporate groups, educators, first responders and mental health professionals. The problem of suicide is considered a national public health crisis and these trainings provide the tools and resources to combat this problem, improving - and saving - the lives of individuals, and strengthening our communities.

The SAM Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 operating in Alabama and Georgia - including the metro Atlanta area where U.S. Venture operates. We have trained over 3500 people since 2018, and those trainees have taken our suicide prevention skills to serve thousands more in their personal and professional networks.
